Abstract
Magnetic nanoparticlesforhyperthermictreatmentofcancershavegainedsignificant attentioninrecentyears.Inthiswork,biocompatible
maghemite anoparticlesweresynthesizedbytheoxidationofmagnetitenanoparticles,usingacoprecipitationmethodfollowedbyheat
treatment atdifferenttemperaturesrangingfrom200to300 1C for3,5and8hours.ThesampleswereanalyzedbyX-raydiffraction,vibrating
sample magnetometryandtransmissionelectronmicroscopy.Theheatingabilitywasevaluatedunderamagnetic field usingasolidstate
induction heatingequipment.Additionally,hemolysistestwasperformed.Theobtainednanoferritesshowedaparticlesizewithintherangeof
10–11 nmandsuperparamagneticbehavior.Themaghemiteobtainedat250 1C for5hourswasabletoheatinconcentrationsof13mg/2ml
under amagnetic field (10.2kAm1 and frequency362kHz),increasingthetemperatureupto49 1C. Hemolysistest,evaluatedasreleaseof
hemoglobin, revealedthatallthesamplesshowednohemolyticeffectsupto3mg/ml,indicatingnodamageoftheredbloodcellmembranes.
The resultsindicatedthatthemaghemitenanoparticlesobtainedmightbepotentialmaterialsforcancertreatmentbyhyperthermia.
