Abstract: In recent years there has been increased interest in the use of renewable resources for the production of molecules with applications in various industries. A renewable resource is seaweed, which produce a wide range of bioactive compounds, among which are sulfated polysaccharides. Fucoidan is a polysaccharide with multiple properties and have versatility for their application in industry. This work focused on the use of the brown seaweed Macrocystis pyrifera for fucoidan extraction using microwave energy to perform the extraction. Besides microwave assisted extraction extractions were performed with a mechanical stirring system. Low polysaccharides obtained the conditions were a sulfated galactofucano extracted with microwave at 120 °C for different extraction times (0, 5, 20, 35 min). For the extractions were performed at room In recent years there has been increased interest in the use of renewable resources for the production of molecules with applications in various industries. For the extractions were performed at room temperature using both microwave and with mechanical stirring system, the extracted polysaccharide is a sulfated fucan. Yields for microwave-assisted extractions were from 0.18 to 3.7 %. The extractions performed with mechanical stirring system had yields from 0.21 % to 2.84 %, for different extraction times. temperature using both microwave and with mechanical stirring system, the extracted polysaccharide is a sulfated fucan.
